Tested scanners
The OBD scanners that work with Pelican, how fast they are, and their prices.
Each OBD scanner on the Pelican OBD page was purchased and tested with Pelican. Use the filters there to explore the options.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE) scanners work best with Pelican. Connect an OBD scanner compares the connection types. The Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 is the best value. OBDLink scanners are higher quality, faster, and support more cars.
How to read the table
You can sort the scanners by Price, PIDs per second or Speed. The table’s columns:
- Supported has a green check if the scanner has been confirmed to work with Pelican. It has a red x if Pelican is not able to talk to cars with this scanner.
- PIDs per second is the highest number of parameters that the scanner answered in one second during testing on a Nissan Juke with ELMCheck, a companion app to Pelican. You can use it to test your OBD scanner for authenticity.
- Speed (ms) is how long it takes to answer one request, sourced from real-world driver data.
- Price is the last-known price. A struck-through price means that the product was unavailable since last checked.
Fastmode
Pelican supports the ability to optimize command response timings for scanners, improving command throughput by more than 2x on average.
Scanners that don’t work
Some scanners use proprietary protocols and are locked to their own app. Pelican can’t connect to these scanners:
- Every BLCKTEC model, including the 410 and the 430
- Every OBDeleven model
The table also marks each other scanner that didn’t work in the tests.
Scanners not on this page
Most ELM327-compatible scanners work with Pelican. If your scanner isn’t on this page, email support@clutch.engineering. Include the name of the scanner and a link to the store where you bought it, and Jeff will buy one to test it.
