About Daewoo

Daewoo was a South Korean vehicle marque whose production range included the LeMans, Espero, Lanos and Matiz. It developed from the country’s earlier Shinjin and Saehan automotive businesses.1

The Lanos was part of Daewoo’s own model-development program, with design work by Italdesign. The Matiz followed in 1998, adapting Italdesign’s Lucciola concept into a compact five-door city car.23

General Motors acquired key automotive assets in 2002 and continued operations as GM Daewoo. The business became GM Korea in 2011, when Chevrolet replaced the Daewoo name in its domestic passenger-car range.1
