About Lincoln
Lincoln is Ford Motor Company’s luxury vehicle brand. Henry and Wilfred Leland established Lincoln Motor Company in 1917 to manufacture aircraft engines before moving into luxury cars. Ford acquired the company in 1922.1
Lincoln’s passenger cars include the streamlined Zephyr of 1936 and the Continental, which began with a car created for Edsel Ford in 1939. The 1961 Continental became known for its rear-hinged rear doors.12
The Navigator introduced Lincoln to the SUV market in 1997. It began the brand’s expansion beyond luxury sedans into sport-utility vehicles.2
