About Tata

Tata’s vehicle business began in 1945 as the Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company. It expanded into truck manufacturing through a Daimler-Benz partnership in 1954 and later developed passenger vehicles and SUVs.1

Its passenger-vehicle history includes the Sierra of 1991, the Indica and Safari of 1998, and the Nano of 2009. More recent families include the Tiago hatchback and Nexon compact SUV.1

Tata introduced the Nexon EV in 2020 and the Tiago.ev in 2022. The 2025 corporate demerger separated commercial vehicles from the passenger-vehicle business, which also includes Jaguar Land Rover.123
