About Oldsmobile

Oldsmobile was an American car manufacturer founded by Ransom E. Olds in Lansing, Michigan, in 1897. It became part of General Motors in 1908 and remained a GM division until production ended in 2004.12

Its engineering milestones include the Curved Dash of 1901, the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission offered for 1940, and the high-compression Rocket V8 of 1949. The Jetfire added a turbocharged V8 in 1962, while the Toronado brought front-wheel drive to the range for 1966.13

Oldsmobile’s later models included the Cutlass family and the Aurora luxury sedan. The final Oldsmobile left production on 29 April 2004, ending 107 years of vehicle manufacturing.12
